How To Edit STL Files - Edit STL Files In FreeCAD - FreeCAD Edit STL
AllVisuals4U | Design & Engineering
You can edit STL files in FreeCAD! Yes, FreeCAD can edit STL. If you only have an STL file and want to edit it, you can do that in FreeCAD. First you have to import a simple and clean STL file into a new document.
Then select the STL file, go to the 'Part' workbench and click on the 'Part' tab. Select 'Create shape from mesh'. I couldn't discover visual differences between 0.10 and 0.80 and left it at 0.10. It has something to do with tolerance.
You can delete or make the old files invisible if you want.
Click on the 'Part' tab again and then click on 'Refine shape'. This makes the flat surfaces become less detailed. Click one more time on the 'Part' tab and click on 'Convert to solid' to make the object massive instead of hollow.
When you have created a shape you want to cut out of the original shape, select the original object first. Then select the part you want to cut out and click on the 'Make a cut of two shapes' button.
