How To Make A Keychain - 3D Printed Keychain - Keychains DIY - Keychain Design

I designed and 3D printed some keychains! A Car, Home and Bike keychain.

I quickly show you how i designed the keychains in FreeCAD. If you want to make the text another color than the surface it's on, it has to be extruded in the Part workbench. The extrusion acts as a seperate 'body', so you can change the color seperately from the other features.

When everything is the same color as with the 'Home' keychain, then it can be all done in the Part Design workbench.

With the 'Home' keychain, i had to made a Boolean operation (Union) to create a working STL file. Otherwise the text still cut out the contour. This is the case when you want two different colors/bodies.

The 'Car' keychain printed with retraction on (0.50mm) didn'd turn out well. Turning it off resulted in a better print. All the other prints were also printed without retraction. The 'Home' keychain came out better when printed at a slower speed.

My Simplify3D settings for the flexible prints:

black PolyFLEX | hotend 220°C | bed 40°C | 250 micron | 3 top layers | 3 bottom layer | infill 15% 2 outline layers | fan 100% | extrusion multiplier 1.30 | nozzle 0.35mm | ±2000mm/minute (33.3mm/second) extrusion width 0.40mm | retraction off | coasting 0.10mm | wipe distance 1.00mm
