Fast Sawtooth/Triangle Generator with Current Sources
All Electronics Channel
This tutorial discusses the sawtooth generator I designed for an electronics design contest. The circuit used two cascode current sources that are always in the active region. No signal switching is made, providing opportunity for very high frequencies.
A feedback signal generates a small unbalance in the current magnitudes, providing net current to charge/discharge the circuit capacitance, creating the sawtooth waveform.
A secondary DC servo loop guarantees proper bias condition, monitoring the comparator output duty-cycle.
