The New Parenting Paradigm - Unschooling with Dayna Martin
Great discussion with the pioneer of modern day unschooling, Dayna Martin. ‘Parental Attachment’ in this discussion is not what you may think. We go over her family’s way of life, where their home seems like a living breathing arts & crafts environment. This type of imagination-encouraging upbringing looks very promising, yet there are many who either oppose or couldn’t fathom the life of any form of homeschooling or unschooling, which Dayna clarifies with us today among other interesting insights of her journey over the past 20 years of writing books, giving birth naturally, television interviews, entrepreneurship and many more endeavors that have been inspiringly successful among the Sparkling Martins! main website: https://daynamartin.com

@TheSparklingMartins There are more links on their channel to their other platforms as well I’ve noticed a fairly wide variety of children from differing family structures, homeschooled, waldorfed, private or public.. There tends to be a distinct difference, altho there’s always exceptions and is much more complex to generalize as many factors boil down to the will force of the child and how their parents raise them.. I’ve noticed in France that kids tend to mature quicker than Americans children, wether or not they went to school outside their homes.. As Dayna mentioned and practices, is speaking and treating them more like adults, exposing them to a wide range of ages and encouraging them to be more self-sufficient early on.. Much more to it than that, but it’s interesting, especially when the majority of French kids go to public schools, which are pretty authoritarian in the sense that it’s much more lecture-based rather than participative Narrative talking points, as shown on her interviews with Dr. Phil tend to be one sided, for example, he asks about freewill choice of a child for their education, as if assuming they do not have that under the parents practicing homeschooling or unschooling. He then puts in context “the ‘agenda’ of the parents” in doing so, but contrary to that, it would still be the parents’ agenda to send them to school, which subjects their children to be under an exterior agenda outside of the family unit. The word agenda is neutral, yet in context and way it’s spoken can come off as negative.. That word could have been replaced by preference, plan, choice, lifestyle, practice, etc. Also, what we normally see is that children do not have free will choice sometimes to choose to not be in school. Dr. Phil asked Dayna why can’t children be exposed to homeschooling for a year and public school for a year and then let them choose. Yet the contrary is neglected with the majority of the population sending their children to public school without letting them try a year of homeschooling or unschooling for them to compare and decide with their free will. Despite Dr. Phil’s intentions that seem to be good, television in general can be deceptive and not always provide balanced arguments or dichotomies. However, this subject is not so dualistic, as there are many modalities of education or ways for children to learn and mature, whether it be public, private, Waldorf style, homeschooling, apprenticeship, or unschooling. Have you seen divisions with kids or parents from these differing backgrounds and education? Let us know in the comments ‘Dr’ Phil interview: https://youtu.be/R9IfxXl5SAc?si=nyPlly0dL4Jbz8U2
