This is a follow-up to my last video where I did a teardown on the Global / Vandling NDB-2; a databank containing co-ordinates for roughly 20,000 airports and arifields worldwide. This is an optional accessory for the GNS-500A navigation system and removes the need for the pilot to enter data in manually.
The NDB-2 and GNS-500A system has several variants and these were typically sold to the business jet market. Known aircraft that used these were the Dassault Falcon 50 and the Gates Learjet 900. It is a rather ancient system dating from the early 1980's and has largely been replaced with more modern GPS navigation systems.
