Dumping EPROMS from a Harrier GR7 engine monitor test set system and others.
Adrian's Electronics Blog
I obtained a large number of IC's transistors etc which were donated from a fan of my channel who thought I might be interested as most parts are salvaged from military equipment. In them I found a number of EPROMS which I dumped using my programmer, most didn't have anything interesting but a few that were all together in one bag have come from a Plessey engine monitoring computer. The other EPROM contained code for a Philips video recorder.
There are two EPROMS - one containing the NUVRTX Real Time Operating System by Hunter and Ready Inc and the other containing the main program / firmware for the monitoring system.
There are also four EEPROMS used for holding test data which were found to contain Harrier GR7 tail numbers, engine serial numbers and several other parameters. The firmware EPROM mentioned above is full of text strings which give some idea as to what this computer system was.
Basically it was MC68000 based and seemed to be a ground based test set rather than from the aircraft itself. It printed out data downloaded from the Harrier's engine management system and contained things like running hours, any faults along with serial numbers etc.
The exact CPU was a 68008 - the 8/32 bit cut down version of the 16/32 bit 68000 as shown in the introduction of the video; the bag contained the EPROMS, CPU and I/O chips from the system. It's the same internally as it's fully capable bigger brother it just has an 8 bit external data bus instead of 16 bit.
As a matter of interest the 68008 was used in the Sinclair QL microcomputer. My blog https://www.adrian-smith31.co.uk/blog
