*on my shirt: Georg Simmel stated in his book "Conflict And Web Of Group Affiliations" that, paraphrasing in a most liberal fashion, that "society needs conflict as well as unity in order to function because it strengthens the resolve of those already a part of it and keeps outsiders at bay". A bit of a missed opporunity to flex my sociological muscles there.
