DIY 6.5hp 12v Honda clone Alternator Generator power station
AS Motion Lab
An overview of my Honda clone 6.5hp alternator generator station (Eberth brand motor).
A couple of things I failed to mention in the video:
The 2000w I quote in the video is actually a rough estimate of how much the motor/alt puts out on it's own, before it's output voltage sags enough for the batteries to start supplementing the inverter. In truth the system provides 3-4kw continuous when the generator is running wide open throttle. I've successfully stick welded at 140A using it. And the batteries alone are capable of supplying 2-4kw of power without the motor running (not yet tested the limit!).
The alternator is actually turning "backwards" - but this is fine because the fan rotor has straight blades and not curved ones. The brushes are perpendicular to the shaft not angled, therefore the alternator has no preferred direction.
The alternator is a brushed medium duty Delco Remy 22SI as seen on various small trucks, boats, buses, with a 145 amp stator upgrade (from factory). ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3mqpkPzT2M
