Outback Caping Destination - Mt Ive Station | Overlanding South Australia
4xTouring | Duncan & Ajanie Udawatta
Having just got back after five days in the Gawler Ranges, in this video I share with you information about Mt Ive station. Many stations in outback South Australia has opened up their massive properties to tourism and overlanders. One such place is Mt Ive Station. A working sheep station. Located 498km North West of Adelaide, it is a day's drive to get to this remote location. They offer a range of accommodation from bush camping, Shearers' quarters to self contained cabins. The station also offers a spacious kitchen and dinning area for you to get your cooking done.
The stations offers plenty of activities. Bird watching, hiking trails, mountain climbs, a variety of 4x4 tracks to experiencing one of the largest salt pans I have ever seen to date.
During the months of February and March of each year Lake Gairdner salt pan turns into a hype of activity when motoring enthusiasts congregate for the annual land speed record speed week. If this is something that interests you then plan your trip for that time of the year. Mt Ive station gets booked out for the week so better to get your accommodation bookings done early enough.
Cell phone coverage is very limited in this area. Wifi connections are just as bad. Mt Ive station does offer wifi connectivity. However, it is not reliable.
