pi-top: Raspberry Pi install and first boot.
R Brown
Installing the Raspberry Pi model 3 B+ into the pi-top and trying out the pi-topOS (Polaris).
The pi-top uses two of the USB ports to locate the Raspberry Pi as well as a data connection to the Hub board that also connects to the A/V and HDMI connectors. The Hub board also supplies the RPi with power via the USB connection on the side. A bridge component attaches to the RPi GPIO pin header, crossing over the CPU (I serves as a heat sink) and then plugs into a small connector on the Hub board. This supplies the GPIO pins to the add-on modules on the expansion rails.
It took me some time to get all those connections lined up properly. I found I needed to adjust the Hub board a few times to get the bridge connections to all line up. Once there, tighten down all the screws and plug in the external power supply to charge the battery.
The pi-topOS is basically Debian Linux with a different start screen and some additional modules to control the pi-top hardware such as the power on the Hub board. The pi-top seems to run other Raspberry Pi distributions just fine as we'll see in a later video.
More to come, better internal storage and let there be sound...
