DvbLink TV Server version 6, Upgrade and Transfer

Walking through the DvbLink TV server upgrade and license transfer process.

I've been running DvbLink TV server since v4 about 4 yrs. ago. Over that time, I upgraded to v5 and also transferred that license from one PC to another PC.

Upgrades can be done without opening a support ticket. You uninstall the old licensed packages on thew DvbLink Products screen. Then visit the License Portal and click on Actions then Upgrade to version X and follow the instructions. If required, a payment screen will take you through those steps. Once you receive notification of the upgrade, you can install and activate the new version packages on your server.

Transfers between similar systems are free, but you generally can't transfer from one type of system, say a PC, to another type, like a Synology NAS. For a transfer, you'll uninstall and licensed packages on the old server then install them on the new server. Finally send the new server ID information to DvbLogic support along with an explanation that you want to transfer from PC-1 to PC-2, etc.

You can't normally transfer a license between machines of different architecture, like a PC to a NAS. But if you combine that transfer with a paid upgrade, you can do both for the discounted upgrade price.

In my case a new license would have cost around US$60, but upgrading and transferring that license from my WIndows PC to my Synology NAS cost about US$22. If I add the $45 cost of the additional HDHomeRun network tuner, my total cost for the Synology setup was $67. So the network TV tuner cost me an extra $7.
