DvbLink TV Server v5.5, Part 4 - Live & Recorded TV Interface

Let's wrap up this look at the DvbLink TV Server with the live and recorded TV interface.

The TV Guide and Recordings use the web streaming port (:8100 by default). Guide data is on a traditional grid layout with option color coding, favorites channel lists and duration. The display accommodates various size screens and can be accessed from the various clients like Android and iOS. There's a DLNA server built in for smart TV and streaming media players to access.

Compared to Windows Media Center (WMC), the TV program playback and recording options are much more limited. However, DvbLink is superior in terms of trans-coding and external access for which WMC has no support. If you want to access your recordings from a hotel room on the other side of the country or forgot to set up a recording for your favorite show before leaving town, you can do that with DvbLink. This is the same feature many of the cable and satellite DVRs have.

Integrating DvbLink and a Kodi media player makes a decent media platform. You can combine the live and recorded TV along with all your other media into one place. This does still lack some of the media integration that you get with WMC. Also the regular DVBlink PVR client lacks a "pause buffer", a feature you do get with the ServerWMC PVR client, I keep mixing those two clients up, capability-wise.

Once I get time to install DvbLink v6, I'll try that out and review it in a follow on video, so stay tuned for that...
