On Sunday, a passenger plane from Tanzania crashed into Lake Victoria while attempting to land in severe weather at an airstrip in the city of Bukoba in the country's northwest.
In a tweet confirming the incident, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan urged the public to maintain calm while a rescue effort was in progress.
According to Albert Chalamila, the governor of Kagera Region, where the disaster occurred, 26 people have so far been saved from the water.
The injured have been taken urgently to the hospital, Chalamila said, adding that the plane, which belonged to Precision Air, the largest privately owned airline in Tanzania, carried 39 passengers and four crew members.
There hasn't been any data yet on fatalities. According to Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, the jet fell into Lake Victoria in the morning amid "storms and heavy rains" after taking off from the nation's capital, Dar es Salaam. #shorts #planecrash #Tanzania ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPgtrtPjvwc
